Laurie lenfestey, designer and owner of bittersweet designs lives in Santa Fe New Mexico. Bittersweet Designs was created in 2006; Laurie started with a card line, inspired by her daily collages for her children, and then developed a vintage paper line of wedding albums, baby albums, photo frames etc. Because of the wonderful response to the necklaces, she is now completely dedicating her time to designing jewelry. She is happy and honored that her necklaces are sold to boutiques worldwide. Her shop on Santa Fe’s famed Canyon Road has become a community stopping point for artists, children and free spirits, who are encouraged to wander through her open doors.
Each piece of jewelry from Bittersweet Designs is singular and unique, as they are all hand-made in designer Laurie Lenfestey’s gallery in Santa Fe. Many ingredients are layered and interwoven in each piece: semi-precious stones, vintage Czech glass, freshwater pearls in soothing grays and warm champagne hues, sterling chains, vintage glass buttons, and ethnic additions, such as Milagros, Ethiopian crosses and telsums. Laurie adds the unexpected to the expected with each creation, in a layered collage of treasures. The result is a line that is elegant and free-spirited, with a subdued bohemian flair.
Bittersweet Designs offers up a bit of contradiction. Each piece is a sophisticated interplay of old and new, nature and glamour, relaxed charm and elegant fantasy. Laurie pays loving homage to the passage of time by using vintage elements with a decided patina, expressed with a fresh, unconventional voice. Like the women who wear them, each piece is beautiful, nuanced, and sophisticated, but with a playful spirit.
Bittersweet is honored and happy to be selling to hundreds of boutiques worldwide, and has been featured in many national publications, including town& country, country living, coastal living, people and travel & leisure. Supporting and empowering women is tremendously important to laurie; she has curated nearly a dozen solo woman art exhibitions in her shop on canyon road, offering the opportunity for women to get their art into the world. Laurie has offered workshops in the past. Stay tuned! A week long artistic retreat in santa fe, new mexico is in the making. Laurie also volunteers her time weekly, teaching workshops to middle school girls, helping them find their creative voice.
